Passport (Passport Seva) photo and signature size
Indian passport application photo, Global Passport Seva Version 2.0 (Ministry of External Affairs): the upload sizes from the official notice.
Source: Consulate General of India, Jeddah: Global Passport Seva Version 2.0 guidelines (from 24 October 2025); Consulate General of India, Milan: notice on uploading ICAO photographs (5 December 2025), which gives the 250 KB limit · checked 11 October 2026
Photograph
- Size: 630 × 810 px
- File size: up to 250 KB
- Format: JPG
- 630 x 810 pixels, colour, white background, face 80–85% of the photo, at most 250 KB.
What the notice also says
- The photo must be in colour, with a white background and no shadows on the face or the background.
- Your face must take up 80–85% of the photo: the full head from the top of the hair to the bottom of the chin, centred, eyes open, not tilted.
- Take the photo from about 1.5 metres away; remove glasses to avoid reflections.
- Head coverings are allowed only for religious reasons, and the whole face from chin to forehead must stay visible.
- The Milan notice gives the 250 KB limit; the Jeddah guidelines give no file size. Neither names a file format; JPG is the usual choice.
- Jeddah's guidelines say the photo should not be altered by software. Cropping and resizing to 630 x 810 is what both ask for; do not retouch your face.
- The same 630 x 810 px rule appears in notices of other Indian missions. passportindia.gov.in could not be read directly.
If your notice says something else
Rules change between years and between posts. If your notice gives other numbers, follow the notice: open the photo tool and type its numbers in.
