How to type Hindi here
- Type a Hindi word in English letters, such as namaste, and press space. It becomes नमस्ते.
- If a word comes out wrong, tap the right spelling in the bar above the box. The bar shows the spellings of the word you are typing and of the word you just finished; tap a word you typed earlier to see its spellings again.
- Backspace straight after a word brings back its English letters, so you can change them.
- To keep a word in English, tap it at the end of the bar, or switch to English above the box (Ctrl+G on a computer).
- When you are done, tap Copy and paste the text into WhatsApp, Word, an email or a form.
Spelling tips
The tool knows over 5,000 common Hindi words and works out the rest from the letters. These spellings work best:

Worked example: a leave application
Typing sevaa mein shriman pradhanacharya mahoday gives सेवा में श्रीमान प्रधानाचार्य महोदय, and mujhe teen din ki chhutti chahiye. gives मुझे तीन दिन की छुट्टी चाहिए। Letter words such as vishay (विषय), nivedan (निवेदन) and kripya (कृपया) come out right as typed.
Copy it in Kruti Dev
Some offices still type in the Kruti Dev 010 font. Copy in Kruti Dev copies the text in Kruti Dev's letters: paste it into a Word file and set the font to Kruti Dev 010. We do not supply the font. To turn Kruti Dev text back into Unicode, use the Kruti Dev to Unicode converter.
Is this how typing tests are typed?
No. Typing tests for government jobs are usually typed on a Hindi keyboard layout, Inscript or Remington Gail, where each key gives a Hindi letter, not by typing English letters. Check what your notice allows, practise on the Hindi typing test, and read Inscript or Remington? to choose a layout.
Your text stays on your device
Everything happens in your browser: the page itself turns the words into Hindi, nothing you type is sent anywhere, and the text is not saved, so copy it before you close the page. The only thing kept is the spellings you pick, in this browser, so the same word comes out your way next time. Forget them, under the box, clears them.
Questions people ask
- Do I need to install a Hindi keyboard?
- No. Type in English letters on any phone or computer keyboard, and the page writes the Hindi.
- Why did a word come out wrong, and how do I fix it?
- English letters can spell a Hindi word in more than one way: "kam" can be कम or काम. Tap the right one in the bar above the box, or type the long vowel twice (kaam). The tool remembers your pick in this browser.
- Does it work on a phone?
- Yes. If your phone keyboard changes the English words you type (autocorrect), turn its suggestions off for a while, or pick the word you meant from the keyboard's own bar.
- Can I use this in an SSC or court typing test?
- No. Those tests are usually typed on a Hindi keyboard layout, Inscript or Remington Gail. Practise those on the Hindi typing test.
- Does it work without the internet?
- Yes. Once the page has loaded, you can turn the internet off and keep typing.
- Is my text saved or sent anywhere?
- No. The Hindi is made in your browser and nothing you type leaves your device. The text is not saved, so copy or download it before you close the page.
