What the checker looks at

CheckWhy a portal rejects the file
File size in KBOver the maximum or under the minimum. The checker counts it both ways portals do, with 1 KB as 1,024 bytes and as 1,000 bytes, and warns when the file passes only one of them.
FormatRead from the file's own bytes, not its name. A PNG renamed to .jpg still fails a JPG-only check, and a JPG that Windows saved as .jfif is refused by portals that accept only .jpg or .jpeg.
Size in pixelsNot the width and height the notice asks for, or outside its allowed range or shape.
Rotation tagA photo taken with the phone turned carries a tag that phones use to show it upright. Some portals ignore the tag and show the photo on its side.
ColourA black and white photo where the notice asks for colour, or CMYK colour from a printer or design program, which some portals cannot read.
TransparencyTransparent parts of a PNG, common in signatures cut out by an app, turn black on some portals.
DPIShown when the notice names one. DPI is only a print-size label saved in the file, so changing it does not touch the picture.

How to check your photo

  1. In What is the file for?, pick your exam's photo, signature or other upload, or keep My form's own numbers and type the KB range and size from your notice.
  2. Choose the file you plan to upload.
  3. Read the result. OK means the file meets that rule, Check means some portals may refuse it, and Problem means it breaks the rule. Below that are the file's details: size in KB and bytes, pixels, DPI and printed size.
  4. If something is wrong, tap Fix it in one step. The matching resizer opens with the right numbers filled in; choose the same file there.

Worked example

A photo for SBI Clerk taken on a phone: 3.1 MB, saved as 4032 × 3024 pixels with a rotation tag that shows it upright. The checker shows a Problem for the file size (over 50 KB), and Check for the pixels (SBI prefers 200 × 230) and for the rotation tag. After the fix, the new file is 200 × 230 pixels, about 30 KB, upright and at 200 DPI, and every line shows OK.

Questions people ask

How do I check the size of a photo in KB?
Choose it here. The checker shows its size in KB both ways portals count, and in bytes. Your phone's gallery usually shows the size under Details or Info, but often rounded.
How do I see a photo's size in pixels?
Choose it here; the pixels are in the file details. The checker reads them from the file itself, so they are the numbers a portal sees.
The checker says OK but the portal still rejects my photo. Why?
Portals also check things a file cannot show, such as a plain light background, your face filling most of the photo, or how recent the photo is. Read the notice for those, and see our guide on image upload errors.
Is my photo uploaded to check it?
No. The file is read by your own browser. Nothing is sent anywhere.
