Change photo background to white or blue
Choose a photo of yourself. The tool finds you and puts plain white behind you. Pick another colour if you need one, or your exam to set the size and KB as well.
Works on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

How to change your photo's background
- Choose a photo of yourself, face and shoulders, looking at the camera. Phone photos, screenshots and iPhone HEIC photos all work.
- Background starts at White. Pick Light blue, Blue, Light grey or Another colour if your form or ID card asks for one.
- To get a form-ready file in one go, pick your exam, or type the width, height and KB range from the notice. A box then appears on the photo: put your face inside the dashed oval.
- Tap Make my file. Look at the edges of your hair and shoulders in the result, then download.
How it works, on your phone
A small person-finding model, MediaPipe Selfie Segmenter by Google (249 KB), runs inside your browser. It marks which parts of the photo are you. The tool then moves that edge onto the edges in the photo itself and takes the old wall's colour out of the edge pixels, so your hair and shoulders do not keep a fringe of the old background. Your photo is never uploaded: once the page has loaded, it works even with the internet off.
Getting a clean result
- Stand a step away from the wall. A shadow on the wall right behind you can be taken for part of you.
- Choose a background that differs from your hair and clothes. A black shirt against a dark door gives a rough edge; a light wall gives a clean one.
- One person, close to the camera. The model is made for photos of people, from face and shoulders to the whole body. It does not find objects or pets, and it can miss people far away.
- Light from the front. A bright window behind you makes the edge of the hair hard to see.
Which colour does my form want?
Most Indian exam and job notices ask for a plain white or light-coloured background, and the Indian passport photo needs a white one. Some school, college and office ID cards use light blue or blue. When the notice names a colour, use that; when it only says "light background", white is the safe choice. A few notices ask for a photo that has not been edited. If yours does, take a new photo against a plain white wall instead; our photo rules for forms guide has a checklist.
Worked example
A 3 MB phone photo taken in a bedroom, with a cupboard and a curtain behind the person. With White chosen and the size set to 200 × 230 pixels and 20 to 50 KB, the tool finds the person, puts white behind them, crops to the face and saves a JPG of about 20 to 30 KB. On a mid-range phone the background step takes two or three seconds; newer phones are quicker.
Questions people ask
- Is this photo background changer free?
- Yes. There is no sign-up, no watermark and no limit, and the photo is changed on your own phone or computer.
- Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
- No. The person-finding model is downloaded to your browser once (249 KB) and runs there. Your photo never leaves your device.
- How do I make a photo with a blue background?
- Choose the photo, then pick Light blue or Blue under Background. Another colour opens a colour picker for an exact shade.
- Will an exam portal accept a photo with a changed background?
- Portals check the size and format, and the people who check forms look for a plain light background and a clear face. A clean white background meets that rule. If your notice says the photo must not be edited, take a new photo against a white wall.
- Why are the edges of my hair rough?
- The edge is found from the colours in the photo, so hair against a busy or similar-coloured background is the hardest case. Take the photo again in front of a plain wall, a step away from it, and the edge comes out clean.
- Does it work on objects, pets or logos?
- No. The model is made to find people. For a product photo, put a plain sheet of paper behind the object when you take the picture.
