Why convert PNG to JPG
Forms that say "JPG/JPEG only" reject a PNG even when it looks fine, and a photo saved as PNG is often several times bigger than the same photo as JPG. Screenshots, scans from some apps and pictures copied from web pages often arrive as PNG. Renaming .png to .jpg does not convert anything; this tool saves the picture again as a real JPG.
Transparent backgrounds
A PNG can have see-through parts, as in a logo or a signature with no background. JPG cannot, so those parts become white, which is what forms expect behind a signature. To keep the see-through background, save as PNG or WEBP in the image converter instead.
Worked example
A signature saved by a scanning app as a 600 × 250 PNG of 180 KB, converted with a maximum of 20 KB: a JPG of 600 × 250 pixels on white, under 20 KB. For a form that also fixes the pixel size, use Resize signature.
Questions people ask
- Does converting PNG to JPG reduce quality?
- Slightly, because JPG is lossy, but at High (90%) it is hard to see. Text and sharp lines stay crispest at Best (95%).
- Why did my transparent PNG get a white background?
- JPG cannot store transparency, so see-through parts are filled with white. Save as PNG or WEBP to keep them.
- Is the file uploaded?
- No. The PNG is converted by your own browser and never leaves your device.
