When you need to split a PDF
- The form asks for one certificate, but your scan holds several documents in one PDF.
- A portal takes only 1 or 2 pages, such as the first page of a mark sheet, or the front and back of an ID card.
- A scan has blank or extra pages that push it over the KB limit.
- Each document must be uploaded separately: save every page as its own PDF.
How to split a PDF
- Tap Choose a PDF. The tool shows how many pages it has.
- In What to do, choose Keep only these pages, Remove these pages or Save each page as its own PDF.
- Type the pages, such as
1-3, 5. - If the form gives a limit, type it in Maximum KB, then tap Make my file.
Typing page numbers
| You type | Pages |
|---|---|
2 | page 2 |
1-3 | pages 1, 2 and 3 |
1-3, 5 | pages 1, 2, 3 and 5 |
4- | page 4 to the last page |
3, 1, 2 | pages 3, 1 and 2, in that order (with Keep only these pages) |
Worked example
A 6-page scan of 2.4 MB holds a mark sheet (pages 1 and 2), a caste certificate (page 3) and other papers. To upload the mark sheet under 200 KB, choose Keep only these pages, type 1-2 and 200 in Maximum KB. The two scanned pages come to about 800 KB, over the limit, so they are redrawn at a lower resolution to fit, about 90 KB a page.
Questions people ask
- Does splitting reduce the quality?
- No. Pages are copied as they are. Only when you set a Maximum KB and the new PDF is bigger are the pages redrawn as pictures to fit.
- Can I delete pages from a PDF?
- Yes. Choose Remove these pages and type the pages to delete, such as 2, 4.
- Can I change the order of the pages?
- Yes. With Keep only these pages, type them in the order you want, such as 3, 1, 2. To move pages while seeing them, use Organize PDF pages.
- Is my PDF uploaded?
- No. The PDF is split by your own browser and never leaves your phone or computer.
