Why text from a PDF breaks in the middle of sentences

Most PDFs store where each line sits on the page, not where your paragraphs begin and end. When you copy from one, each line usually ends with a line break, so the text pastes as short broken lines. Joining the lines puts the sentences back together, and the empty line between two paragraphs is kept so that they stay apart.

Words split with a hyphen

Books and reports often split a long English word at the end of a line with a hyphen, such as "exam-" on one line and "ination" on the next. Tick Join English words split by a hyphen to rejoin them as "examination". It starts off because it would also join a real hyphenated word that breaks at the end of a line, such as "well-" and "known".

Extra spaces

Remove extra spaces turns runs of spaces and tabs into a single space and trims the spaces at the start and end of each line, which text copied from a table often has.

Hindi text

Hindi lines are joined the same way, with a space between them. If Hindi text from a PDF pastes as English-looking letters such as fgUnh, the PDF uses an old font such as Kruti Dev: join the lines here, then change the text to Unicode with the Kruti Dev to Unicode converter.
